1. Take one (1) plastic soft drinks bottle (500ml Coca Cola is best but it doesn’t really matter)
2. Drink the aforementioned beverage or decant into a suitable container being careful to cover it to prevent contamination by flies or other airborne household pests. This is probably more important during the summer months when the common house fly (scientific name: Musca domestica Linnaeus) is at it’s most troublesome, see: - http://creatures.ifas.ufl.edu/urban/flies/house_fly.htm
3. Wash the bottle thoroughly in hot (not boiling water) adding a little detergent. Rinse and stand upside down until completely dry. This can be tricky on most standard draining boards as they have a slight incline towards the sink itself so as to aid the dispersal of drained water. To combat this tricky situation I have developed a simple but effective method to keep your ‘new shaker’ in the inverted position. Simply surround the bottle with stout drinking mugs and hey presto!!!
4. Carefully remove the manufacturers label from the waist of the bottle and replace it with FREE downloadable version, which can be found on these very pages (somewhere). This can be done by sticky taping the start of your new label to the bottle and then slowly rotating until the ends meet up. Then simply tape/glue the free end into position.
5. Making quite sure that the bottle is internally dry add the filling. This can be made from a wide variety of materials including pasta (uncooked), coloured fish tank grit, dried peas, or for that really harsh sound, small stones.
6. Replace the lid of the bottle after getting an adult to put a couple of spots of superglue on the rim. 7. And you’re off… to the next RONALDOS gig armed with your very own authentic RONALDOS shaker.
